Single track branch from Border Counties Junction on the N&CR to Allendale, with intermediate stations at Elrington, Langley and Stawart.

29/11/1864 Bill for Hexham & Allendale Railway submitted to Parliament.
19/06/1865 Bill receives Royal Assent.
19/08/1867 Line opens for freight to Langley.
13/01/1868 Opens to Catton Road.
01/03/1869 Following a delay owing to lack of funds to complete passenger facilities, the passenger service, operated by NER, commences.
13/07/1876 NER take over.
22/09/1930 Passenger service withdrawn.
20/11/1950 End of goods service and closure of line.
