The Alnwick Branch
3 mile double track branch from Alnmouth (Bilton until May 1892) to Alnwick with no intermediate stations.
- 1845 Newcastle & Berwick Railway Act includes powers to build a branch from Bilton to Alnwick.
- 1848 Construction of line begins.
- 05/08/1850 Line opened for goods.
- 19/08/1850 Opened to passengers.
- 1964 Line reduced to single track and signalling removed.
- 18/06/1966 Last day of steam operation with 9F 2-10-0 No 92099 marking the occasion. Alnmouth engine shed closed.
- 29/01/1968 Passenger service withdrawn.
- 07/10/1968 Goods service ends and branch closed.
- Aln Valley Railway Society hopes to re-open the line at some time in the future.
