Newcastle & Carlisle Railway
- 26/03/1825 Newcastle-on-Tyne and Carlisle Railroad Company formed.
- 22/05/1829 Parlimentry Bill receives Royal Assent.
- 1830 Construction began at Carlisle and Blaydon.
- 23/06/1832 Act of Parliment allowing borrowing of £100,000 obtained.
- 1834 Horse hauled good's traffic began between Blaydon and Hexham.
- 11/1834 Decided that steam locomotives required for line.
- 03/1835 First steam locomotives delivered.
- 09/03/1835 Passenger service began between Blaydon and Hexham
- 28/03/1835 - 06/05/1835 services on line suspended as a result of objections to the use of steam locomotives. However, objectors relented in the face of public outcry.
- 17/06/1835 Act of Parliament passed authorising locomotive haulage.
- 28/06/1836 Hexham to Haydon Bridge opened.
- 19/06/1836 Carlisle to Blenkinsopp (Greenhead) opened.
- 01/03/1837 Blaydon to Askew's Quay, Redheugh opened
- 18/06/1838 Line officially opened with completion of Haydon Bridge to Blenkinsopp section.
- 21/05/1839 Line opens to Shot Tower with the completion of Scotswood Bridge.
- 1847 Line extended to Forth Banks.
- 01/01/1851 Line extended to Central Station. Forth closed to passenger traffic becoming a major good's station.
- 17/07/1862 NCR amalgamates with the North Eastern Railway
- 10/1876 Opening of North Wylam Branch provided an alternative route for N&CR trains.
- 04/12/1982 Passenger services diverted via Dunston Branch from Newcastle Central to Blaydon.
