Motive Power
Passenger services were normally operated by push-pull units of 2 carriages and a BTP Class 0-4-4 (LNER Class G4) between South Gosforth and Ponteland / Darras Hall. These were replaced in the mid 1920s by Sentinel steam railcars running through to Newcastle Central.
Goods trains were operated by LNER Class J24, J25, J27 and J39 0-6-0 and Q6 0-8-0 locomotives and latterly by Class 25 and Class 40 diesels.
Class V1 and V3 2-6-2T locomotives occasionally appeared with enthusiast's specials and when Royal Trains were stabled overnight on the line.
